Poetry Activity
In effort to engage a different audience, Arrowhead Library System partnered with a local poet and Instructor at the College of St. Scholastica to celebrate National Poetry Month in April 2013. Local award-winning poet Ryan Vine will share several selections of his work, followed by an interactive discussion focused primarily on the use of metaphor. He presented at eleven locations around the Arrowhead Library System.
56 adults and youth attended these events.
Participants will learn the skills of poetic expression: form, imagery, word choice. The program will broaden patron awareness and will experience the therapeutic, stress-relieving benefit of writing poetry.
A survey was distributed to the group. 100% of survey responders said they would attend another program like this again at the library. Some of the comments include: "I learned I liked poetry more than I thought!" and "I was exposed to something new and I learned about different types of poetry."
